Rachel Sarah Thomas is a classicaly trained Vocalist, Songwriter, Producer and Recording Artist from the Chicago land area.
From the age of 5, she began studying classical piano and voice. Through her childhood and teenage years she competed in various National and Statewide competitions, as a solo vocalists, and as an ensemble member in award winning choirs. Studying Vocal Performance at the University of Michigan gave her the technical background to pursue a career as a working musician.
After College she worked as a singer in the Joe London Orchestra, performing jazz standards and swing, and then transitioned to being the front-woman vocalist and keys player for a psychedelic rock band Automata. This bands music has been featured as the soundtrack to several films and fashion shows in New York.
Her experience in Automata is what got her interested in composing original music. She quit the band, and spent three months praying about what to do. She eventually decided she would pursue a career as a solo musician, and booked a show three weeks from that date. She spent 16 hours a day studying equipment and learning how to produce all of her music live, by herself. That was the start of her solo career.
She currently writes and performs as KSRA, a one woman electro-folk act that has collaborated with Grammy Winners Tha Bizness, Talib Kweli, Donnie Trumpet, NYLO, Prob Cause, Griz, Loyal Divide and many more. A song she composed and recorded, "Corners Of Your Mind" is currently airing on the TV network Adult Swim. Her music and interviews are played on National Public Radio, and college radio stations in Chicago and the midwest. In all her interviews, she discusses her Assyrian heritage and hopes to preserve her culture through music. She is currently playing regionally in the midwest and working on a full length album. She has performed at SXSW in Austin Texas, Milwaukee Summerfest, a label showcase for Capitol, Mowtown, Interscope and Atlantic Records in Los Angeles. She is currently signed to a production deal with a publishing and recording company based in Atlanta, Georgia. She is also working on her first book, a collection of her Grandfathers Memoirs. Her other interests are photography, painting, poetry, and learning languages.
